Mark Norrander's dreamy egg tempera landscapes are not painted from photos or location sketches, but from memories such as a day on a river or winter sunlight under the trees. "By painting themes—not specific images—I have the opportunity to explore and to play and for a number of paintings to evolve from the same theme," he says. Mark believes that his use of egg tempera deepens this evolution. "Like any medium, it has advantages and limitations that affect the painting. You can't squish it around like oils or acrylics, but you can create an opalescence and rich textures unique to it. Mark attended the Museum Art School (now the Pacific Northwest College of Art), in Portland. He spent 30 years as a graphic designer and art director. He has been teaching himself to paint with egg tempera for nearly ten years If you're interested in any of these pieces, please contact us.
