“When I start a painting, I simply play with attitudes, materials and ideas until I understand what it wants to say. From there I focus that statement into a finished painting,” says Richard Stine. "Making art in this free-floating way keeps it an adventure for me, because I never know what’s going to happen. This spontaneous way of working forces me to use every part of my being. It mirrors the way we live our lives, taking things as they come and doing the best we can with them.”
